Building the Digital Foundation for Europe's Electric Truck Public Charging Network

Milence

Our Customer

Founded in 2022, Milence is a joint venture between Daimler Truck, TRATON GROUP, and Volvo Group with a mission to accelerate the transition to fossil-free road transport. Headquartered in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, the company is building Europe's largest public charging network for heavy-duty electric vehicles.

Today, Milence operates 38 charging hubs across nine European countries, making it the largest public charging network for heavy-duty transport in Europe. With a growing team of approximately 150 employees, the company continues to expand its footprint along major European freight corridors and logistics routes, with an ambition to have 90 charging hubs operational across Europe by the end of 2028.

Strategically located along key TEN-T transport corridors and logistics routes, Milence's charging hubs are purpose-built for heavy-duty vehicles and provide reliable high-power charging alongside secure parking and driver amenities, supporting the transition towards zero-emission logistics across Europe.

TheSituation

Always-On Connectivity for Electric Truck Charging

As demand for zero-emission heavy-duty transport grows, Milence is rapidly expanding its charging network across Europe. To support this ambitious rollout, the company requires a highly reliable and secure digital infrastructure connecting charging stations, operational systems, payment services, security solutions, and other critical on-site technologies.

Many charging locations operate unattended and rely on continuous network connectivity to ensure a seamless experience for drivers. Any interruption could impact charging availability, operational visibility, or customer service.

To support its growth plans, Milence needed a scalable networking solution capable of delivering secure, resilient, and standardized connectivity across current and future charging sites.

TheSolution

Building a Secure Connectivity Platform for European Expansion

To support its ambitious European rollout, Milence partnered with Deutsche Telekom to build a secure, scalable, and highly available connectivity platform for its charging infrastructure.

Milence selected Deutsche Telekom for its ability to deliver secure, scalable connectivity with pan-European coverage, supporting the company's rapid international expansion. Together with Fortinet, Deutsche Telekom delivers a fully managed networking solution that connects charging hubs with cloud-based operational systems, payment platforms, security services, and the growing ecosystem of connected IoT devices. The solution provides a standardized foundation that can be replicated quickly as new locations are added across Europe.

Designed for business-critical operations, the platform combines resilient connectivity, integrated security, and centralized network management to help ensure that charging services remain available around the clock. Multiple connectivity options and built-in redundancy provide reliable connectivity for every charging location, while secure cloud connectivity and local networking enable the efficient operation of each site.

The solution delivers several key capabilities:

  • Secure SD-WAN connectivity across all charging sites
  • Integrated LAN, Wi-Fi, and secure public cloud connectivity
  • High-availability connectivity: Designed to provide highly resilient connectivity with a site availability SLA of 99.5% and above, helping ensure uninterrupted charging services for truck drivers across Europe.
  • Reliable connectivity for chargers, payment terminals, cameras, battery systems and other critical IoT devices
  • Multiple connectivity options—including fiber, LTE/5G, and low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite connectivity where required—combined with built-in redundancy, provide resilient connectivity and help ensure uninterrupted charging services.
  • A scalable architecture designed to support Milence's continued expansion across Europe

"Reliable connectivity is essential for delivering a seamless charging experience across our growing European network. Deutsche Telekom provides the secure and resilient digital foundation that enables us to scale with confidence as we accelerate the transition to sustainable road transport."

TheResult

Scaling Faster with Reliable, Standardized Connectivity

With Deutsche Telekom's secure and resilient connectivity platform in place, Milence has established a strong digital foundation for the continued expansion of its European charging network.

The standardized networking approach enables new charging sites to be deployed efficiently while maintaining consistent security, operational visibility, and performance across every location. Reliable connectivity ensures that critical services, including charging systems, payment terminals, security infrastructure, and remote monitoring—remain available to support both operators and truck drivers.

As Milence continues to expand its charging network across Europe, Deutsche Telekom's managed connectivity and security services provide the scalable digital foundation needed to support future growth.

With corporate responsibility and sustainability being integral to both Milence and Deutsche Telekom, the partnership is helping shape the future of sustainable road transport by creating the secure digital foundation for Europe's next generation of electric truck charging infrastructure.
