TheSituation

Replacing a disparate IT and network landscape
Having acquired various companies throughout the years, Wabtec was faced with a disparate IT and network landscape which increased the complexity of its management and threatened to impede the company’s business. Adding new sites to the global corporate network was becoming complex, costly, and taking too much time. Moreover, in an effort to modernize and consolidate its network infrastructure, Wabtec was questioning the viability of MPLS technology amid the rise of cloudification and SaaSification. Their objective was to implement a solution which improves flexibility, efficiency and speed of site deployment ‒ especially in remote areas ‒ with high performance expectations and cost reduction in mind. In addition, any new network solution had to be on par with MPLS with regards to reliability and end-to-end data privacy. With so many different solutions, providers and global diversity within their enterprise, Wabtec’s IT department was looking for a partner to help addressing these issues.
TheSolution

Deutsche Telekom SD-WAN based on Aryaka
Challenged by the inflexibility and high cost of their MPLS network, Wabtec embarked on a quest to revolutionize their network infrastructure. The solution they’ve opted for is based on Aryaka's global SD-WAN, strategically chosen by Deutsche Telekom to unlock flexibility, optimize efficiency and accelerate site deployments. Before implementing the new SD-WAN on a global scale, Wabtec started with a Proof of Concept (PoC) at remote sites which showed remarkable results, exceeding performance expectations while reducing costs. Aryaka's secure private network backbone clearly emerged as a reliable MPLS alternative, ensuring end-to-end data privacy and strengthening security measures.
Through a proactive approach and facilitated discussions, Deutsche Telekom addressed Wabtec's security concerns, ensuring compliance and highlighting the robust security framework of Europe’s leading telecommunications provider. In addition, Deutsche Telekom's global presence and capabilities were key during the PoC phase, demonstrating their ability to act locally while exerting global influence. This fundamental expertise reinforced Wabtec’s confidence in the proposed Aryaka solution which finally made them roll it out across all of their sites worldwide.
"Being a Global provider, Deutsche Telekom is able to provide for my Internet and SD-WAN needs around the world and offer me a single point of contact in the United States, and a single billing platform from which to operate."
TheResult
Wabtec experienced remarkable business results thanks to their partnership with Aryaka and Deutsche Telekom. The on-demand model of the new SD-WAN solution facilitated rapid activation of new sites within hours, ideal for quick deployments and data backups. This is supported by Aryaka's ability to ship their network access points (so called ANAPs) within 48 hours, minimizing network downtime during expansions. Moreover, internal efficiency increased as the solution freed Wabtec’s IT staff from routine network management tasks, allowing them to focus on strategic initiatives, ultimately leading to additional revenue and operational excellence.
